Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) has been called into to undertake an investigation involving an RCMP vehicle that struck and injured a pedestrian on a grid road on the Kawacatoose First Nation.
A release from the RCMP states that on April 8, 2025, at approximately 10:10 p.m., Punnichy RCMP received a firearms-related call for service on the Kawacatoose First Nation.
One of the responding officers was travelling in a police vehicle on the Kandahar grid road when the vehicle struck a pedestrian. The incident occurred near a rural residence on the Kawacatoose First Nation, approximately 600 metres from the main community site.
The officer, who was not physically injured, immediately called for an ambulance and provided first aid to the pedestrian until EMS arrived.
The 16-year-old male pedestrian sustained serious injuries because of the collision. STARS Air Ambulance airlifted him to hospital in Regina, and he has since been transferred to Saskatoon.
The release goes on to state that the SIRT was immediately called in, as required by the Police Act (1990), to investigate the circumstances of the collision and the pedestrian’s injuries. SIRT will provide further details as their investigation unfolds.
The investigation into the firearms related incident continues.
