An experienced Indigenous poet will be showcased at the Lyric Theatre's next session of Write Out Loud coming up next week.
Saskatoon-based writer Rita Bouvier will share excerpts from some of her work and give folks a sneak peek into her process at the event on Wednesday, April 16.
The Metis writer and long-time educator noted that despite working with writing groups in the past, she's never participated in the Lyric Theatre's Write Out Loud.
"I'm going to read from A Beautiful Rebellion, which is the latest collection of poetry I've written that came out in the spring of 2023," Bouvier said. "I'm also wanting to weave in some older pieces that I've written from other collections as well as what I'm working on currently.
"Being an educator and my love for writing come together quite tightly in many ways, and I'm very aware of the responsibility that I have for the future generation."
The seasoned author highlighted that home is where she grew up, spotlighting the community of Île-à-la-Crosse in northern Saskatchewan, where she was raised and still owns a part-time property.
"I'm hoping to meet some new people, and I'm really looking forward to coming to Swift Current," she added.
Anyone interested is welcome to check out Write Out Loud, admission is $8 per person.
The doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the evening will kick off with live entertainment from Dillon Currie before Bouvier takes the stage shortly after.
