The Red Deer Regional Airport is continuing its efforts to secure a passenger service carrier.
The airport is currently undergoing a four-phase expansion.
Phase 2 was recently completed with the $4.2-million expansion of the airport terminal. Phase 1, completed in 2023, included widening the main runway, as well as strengthening the main apron and taxiway.
"With so many changes and pressures within the aviation sector right now, we're just in that atmosphere of trying to work things out and find the right fit for an airline to serve the community," explained CEO Nancy Paish.

Phase 3 will involve expanding Airport Drive, which is expected to be completed by spring 2026. Airport Drive will provide direct access to the airport from Highway 2A and Township Rd 374. The taxiway will also be extended.
"We're actively pursuing land developers to set up maintenance, repair, and overhaul manufacturing operations here at the airport," added Paish. "That's something that, as a team, we're actively seeking to increase the number of jobs in the community, as well as tax revenue and community services."
Paish noted that staff are busy looking ahead to the airshow planned for July 2026.
A full announcement on performers is expected in December.
