With a vacancy on Maple Creek's town council, they're holding an information session on the role tonight.
The session will provide insights into the role, responsibilities and jurisdiction of council, time commitment, the election process, and any number of questions potential candidates may have.
"The intent of the information session is really to give anyone who may be interested or thinking about running for municipal office some clarity on what's involved and the scope of the position," said Maple Creek CAO Barry Elliot. "What would be expected of them as an elected official."
You don't have to be interested in running for the council seat to attend.
"It's open to anyone who wants to come and just listen," Elliot said. "It's pretty standard information. It can be surprising for some just how complex the role can be and how much of a time commitment is required to do it effectively."
The town is holding a by-election to fill the seat vacated by Leah Baratta's resignation.
Their information session is scheduled for 7:00 PM tonight at the Maple Creek town office.
The due date for submitting nomination papers to run in the by-election is April 23rd.
Requirements include being a resident of Maple Creek for at least the last three months and a resident of Saskatchewan for the last six months.
