As spring approaches, the true conditions of certain roads begin to reveal themselves. Now the time has come for the public to highlight those highways, streets, and grids that are far from ideal condition.
Nominating and voting for CAA's Worst Roads campaign runs until April 29. It's meant to empower road users to voice safety concerns for themselves and others on the roads.
"We have that freeze-thaw cycle here that just wreaks havoc on our roadways. The other thing is we actually really use our roads," said Angel Blair, manager of communications and public relations for CAA Saskatchewan.
Last year, Moose Jaw had four streets in the top ten. Number five was Coteau Street West, 4th Avenue Viaduct was at six, 13th Avenue Northwest at nine, and 4th Avenue Southwest at ten.
"Last year when our list came out, a lot of people were shocked at how many roads were actually listed from Moose Jaw," stated Blair. "It means Moose Jaw residents care. No one wants to have the title of having the worst roads, but people also want their safety concerns known."
The campaign's first stop was in Moose Jaw as the results indicate that the community is deeply concerned about safety and the condition of the roads they use daily. Residents appreciate the efforts of city crews to repair the roads each year but wish to highlight specific roads, such as 13th Ave NW, which continue to pose safety concerns year after year. Each road user can vote for a road once every 24 hours. The CAA 2025 Top Ten Worst Roads will be revealed on April 30, 2025. CAA Saskatchewan will randomly select one winner from all eligible votes to receive a $1,000 Shell Gift Card. The draw will take place on April 30, 2025.
