Darlene Cecelia Frank
August 19, 1948 – April 9, 2025

Darlene Cecelia Frank was born to Jacob and Theresa (nee Schemenauer) Frank on August 19, 1948, in Humboldt, SK. In spite of her severe health struggles at birth, Darlene did overcome. She grew up on the family farm near Marysburg, SK. Darlene loved her farm animals, especially the cats and dogs. She even learned to ride the Shetland pony. The farm dogs could always be seen by her side. The dog and Darlene, pushing her little carriage, would be seen wandering off into the bush and could be gone for hours, but the two would return home again, much to the relief of her Mom and Dad. In 1962, the family moved to Chilliwack, BC. Because of the moist air there, Darlene found relief from the asthma which burdened her from birth. While there, she started attending a workshop similar to our Futuristic Industries. Darlene became more independent, learning new skills such as cooking and helping her Mom. After 21 years, the family returned to Humboldt to be closer to family in their retirement years. Darlene started to work at Futuristic Industries. Here she made many new friends and enjoyed socializing with them. She took pride in her painting skills of wooden garden stakes and was anxious to explain to us by demonstrating with a gentle swishing of her hand what she had done that day. In 2010, Darlene had the opportunity to move to a new care home with three other girls – Hilda House. She had spent her entire life under the care of her Mom. They were like two peas in a pod, but she accepted this transition very well because of the loving staff working in “her” home. Darlene will be lovingly remembered by her brothers: Ralph (Joan) Frank and their family; Eugene (Loyola) Frank and their family; and her extended family at the Hilda House. She was predeceased by her Dad, Jacob Frank; her Mom, Theresa (nee Schemenauer) Frank; and by her foster brother, Johnny Sawitsky. “SHE TAUGHT US ALL TO PERSEVERE AND CARRY ON”. A private family service was held at Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 1:30 p.m., officiated by Fr. Colin Roy. Others taking part were: Chris Frank and Teri Schindelka, scripture readers; Loyola Frank, intentions; Sean Frank and Les Frank, eulogists; and Teri Schindelka, urn bearer. Honorary pallbearers were staff members of Hilda House and Futuristic Industries. Inurnment followed at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to either Hilda House (c/o Humboldt & District Community Services, P.O. Box 1355, Humboldt, SK, S0K 2A0) or Futuristic Industries (P.O. Box 340, Humboldt, SK, S0K 2A0).
