The City of Swift Current is removing flood barriers after the risk of flooding has receded.
The official statement from the City says that while no flooding ended up happening, the temporary measures were an essential part of the emergency preparedness plan.
Swift Current Fire Department Fire Chief Ryan Hunter was in charge of much of the planning and deployment of the barriers. He is grateful that the flood ended up failing to meet the City's worst expectations.
"Our top priority is always the safety of our community, and we weren’t willing to take any chances," said Hunter. "Although the predicted flood risk didn’t materialize, this was a valuable demonstration of both our planning and preparedness, and we truly are grateful for the patience and support shown by our residents.
The City thanked impacted citizens for understanding the necessity of the barriers.
