The town of Aberdeen, northwest of Humboldt, is contending with floodwaters in and around its area. A social media post from the Town Office said that a state of emergency had been declared.
The post noted that water was collecting within the town and work was under way, in consultation with the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency and the RM of Aberdeen to control the water.
Temperatures in and around the Saskatoon area were in the high double digits from Wednesday on. Those temperatures eventually softened the hard ice that had dammed up water in pools and released it through drainage channels. The mix of snowpack and suddenly high temperatures created the conditions for the floodwaters.
The town quickly mobilized pumps to direct the pools, some of which were depths of three feet, to better drainage channels.
