Cochrane’s annual street sweeping program is set to begin in two weeks, and residents are being asked to do their part to help keep the community clean and safe.
The spring cleanup effort targets debris and leftover sanding material from the winter months. It’s a key part of road maintenance that helps prevent vehicle damage, improves safety for pedestrians and cyclists, and keeps storm drains clear.
“This is an important job for our Roads team, and we’re asking residents to help us out by moving their vehicles and clearing any obstructions on their scheduled day,” said Shane Hubl, Director of Operations for the Town of Cochrane. “Moving vehicles and removing items from the road allows us to sweep efficiently and ensure our streets are clean and safe for everyone.”
Street sweeping will be scheduled on weekdays only and will not overlap with waste and recycling collection days. Temporary parking bans will be in effect on sweeping days, with signs posted at neighbourhood entrances 48 hours in advance. Residents are asked to move vehicles off the street by 8 a.m. and to remove items like curb ramps, basketball nets, and hockey nets.
“Items left on the road may be bypassed by sweepers,” Hubl added. “That means some areas may remain uncleaned if they’re blocked.”
