The Estevan community helped out a local organization by coming out to support a food drive last week put on by Golden West. The Fill The Truck Food Drive was held at the Southern Plains Co-op, with a truck donated by Murray GM for the event.
The food and cash donations raised went towards helping out the Salvation Army Food Bank in Estevan, with Community Ministries Director Ronza Reynard thrilled with the results.
"We had a very successful fill-the-truck food drive on Friday, and we brought in 1,226 pounds of food and $1,125. It was a lot of people stopping in and either purchasing some of those pre-made hampers that Southern Plains Co-op had or dropping off monetary donations, and we even had a few people come in with some food."
Reynard says they're very appreciative of all the food raised, with that food going to families in need in Estevan.
"What we'll do, those pounds of food, we'll help start to fill some of the shelves in the food bank. Same thing with the monetary donations, we use it for filling up the shelves of the food bank. Also, we spend a couple of hundred dollars every week on fresh produce and things like that and dairy products."

Reynard says she feels like the outcome was a bit better than last year's food drive, and thanked the sponsors and other people who made it possible.
"Once again, we can't say thank you enough to Estevan and the surrounding areas for supporting the Salvation Army Food Bank."
The next fundraising event for the Salvation Army in Estevan will be sometime in the fall.
