Our first substantive rainfall of the season hit over the weekend in southwest Saskatchewan.
"We had a low-pressure system sort of track to the south of the province, but to the north of that system, we saw an area precipitation over the weekend across the southern regions," said Justin Shelley, a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada. "Anywhere south of the Trans Canada Highway received about 10 to 20mm of precipitation. Some of that encroached a bit farther north in and around the Swift Current area, which received between 13 and 16mm of precipitation."
That precipitation included some snowfall in certain areas of the southwest.
"Some of that did fall as snow over the higher terrain, especially to the southwest, over the Cypress Hills," Shelley said. "The station near the Cypress Hills went up about 10 to 15 centimeters, so likely some elevated snowfall that that occurred there."
Shelley noted we can expect some variable temperatures this week but within seasonal norms. It should also warm up in our area on the weekend.
