The Portage Terriers’ season has come to an end as they fell 3-2 to the Dauphin Kings on Monday night. Dauphin takes the best of seven Turnbull Cup semi final 4-2 and will now move on to play the Northern Manitoba Blizzard in the final.

The game started off with a bang; three goals were scored in the first six minutes. Havryil Simchuk was left alone in front of the net and buried a rebound for Dauphin to make it 1-0 Kings. Portage responded with goals from Rhett Platt and Tristan Gravenor. Both goals came from broken plays in front of the net. Before the end of the first Dauphin’s captain Ethan Williment banged home a puck at the side of the goal. 2-2 after 2.

The rest of the game was neck and neck with the teams trading chances. Portage had the slight edge in time of attack and total shots. Special teams weren’t much of a factor with the Terriers going 0/5 and the Kings 0/3.

In overtime, after some Terriers chances, Dauphin caught Portage with a turnover in the neutral zone and Simchuk scored low on a 2 on 1.

With the Terriers’ season now over, the team will complete their exit interviews on Tuesday and many of the players will head back home across North America.
