With warmer weather and Springtime conditions, hopefully here to stay, camping season will be here very soon.

"I can't believe it's the middle of April, which means May is right around the corner and I just want to remind everybody, it's time to book your short term camping spots up at Lake Minnewaska Campground," noted Mayor Nancy Penner. "I think many of us are going to be looking at staying close to home this summer, and I just want to remind everybody registration opens May 1st at 8:30am. So check your holiday schedule and be sure to book your spot early. The campground is such the perfect Summer getaway. We have such a beautiful beach, scenic lake trail, fun playground area for the kids, the paddle club rentals will be available and it's just the ideal place to relax and unwind. I mean, the sun and sand and sunsets, what a better place to spend a few days this summer. You can register online or by phone, and the information is on our website."

Street closure changes coming ahead of Suncatch Sounds season

Another season of Suncatch Sounds in downtown Morden will begin in the latter half of May. Penner says there will be six concerts over Summer, with the first happening May 23rd.

"Every summer Crocus Suncatch Sounds hosts a free concert series at the Suncatch in Morden, and again, they will host a six concert series," shared Penner. "I know, in the past, we've had the Morden Chamber of Commerce advocate on behalf of the business community that they were not really in favour of a full street closure for nine weeks during the summer. At their AGM last week, we did make note of that, but Council really would like to find a balanced approach."

Penner explained that approach will see the 8th street closure alongside the Suncatch be targeted this Summer.

"This year the street will be closed on six weekends, and we will target those closures when Crocus Suncatch Sounds events are taking place," she said. "Those closures will run from Thursday, and that coincides with the farmers market which is always on the Thursdays during the summer, until Monday morning."

Penner made the comments for In the Mayor's Chair, which you can listen to below.
