The community of Watrous has been selected to participate in a community building opportunity courtesy of the Saskatchewan Economic Development Alliance (SEDA). Renowned speaker Peter Kenyon will make Watrous one of five stops in a provincial tour for an informative workshop on Community Development and Rural Renewal.
“Peter Kenyon hails from Australia and has been involved with over 2000 communities that are revitalizing and growing,” explains Jeff Siegfried, community enhancement director for the Watrous Manitou Marketing Group. “He’ll host a very interesting workshop at the Watrous Civic Centre on May 7. “
In an online biography, Kenyon describes himself as a community enthusiast and social capitalist who is motivated by the desire to create caring, healthy, inclusive, connected and enterprising communities. He fosters a feeling with community members that “they matter, belong, and can contribute.”
Kenyan has over 35 years of experience working the community and economic transformation. His work in designing and implementing chang and renewal methodologies have revitalized communities and local economies in Australia, New Zealand, Southern Africa, Asia and throughout other parts of the world.
Registration deadline is coming up on April 23. Tickets to the event are $30 for SEDA members and $35 for non-members.
“Community builders are businesses, but they are also people who live in communities and who want their communities to thrive,” says Siegfried, “So you can be a member of any association to attend. It’s open to the public for anybody who wants to make our communities better.”
