The National Police Federation (NPF) is pushing back at the Alberta government.
In a media release sent out on Monday, April 14, the NPF said they sent a letter to the Alberta Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, Mike Ellis.
In it, they accuse Minister Ellis of "spreading false and politically motivated claims about the Alberta RCMP".
Minister Ellis addressed the media on April 7 about building the groundwork for a new Provincial Police force, which Ellis brought up in the Legislature on April 10.
The NPF states; “We are deeply disappointed, yet not surprised, by the continued pattern of broadcasting misinformation and politically motivated rhetoric regarding the Alberta RCMP to justify the replacement of Alberta’s provincial police service without evidence, need, or consultation,” says NPF President and CEO, Brian Sauvé, in the letter.
In the release, the group that represents 20,000 RCMP Regular Members and Reservists, with approximately 3,500 living in Alberta, said, "The NPF has repeatedly corrected misstatements year-over-year with no response, correction, or acknowledgement from the Minister, which indicates these inaccuracies are intentional."
