An open invitation is extended to Cochrane-area residents for the annual Walk of the Cross on Good Friday, April 18, through Cochrane’s historic downtown.

Believed to be a 38-year tradition, church congregations in the Cochrane area come together to reflect on the journey of Jesus Christ from the time he entered Jerusalem to his crucifixion.

More than 400 people have participated annually in the walk since its return following the pandemic. It is organized by the Cochrane Ministerial Association and at least 11 congregations are expected to be represented.

Participants will gather at the corner of 1st Ave. W. and 2nd St., with an arrival time recommended around 9:50 a.m. The walk is expected to last about an hour.

There will be 12 stations of the cross. Scripture will be read, prayers recited, and singing at each stop. Live music is typically performed along the 1st St. W. route. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area during the walk.

The procession ends at the community cenotaph on 5th Ave., near the Legion Hall, where a cross will be erected and remain until Easter Monday.
