Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School (LTCHS) hosted its third annual MegaBowl – a hockey game pitting staff against students – on March 26 at the Servus Arena in Red Deer.

The competition was friendly and a huge success, with this year’s event raising $7,023 in support of the Central Alberta Women’s Emergency Shelter (CAWES).

The event, which brings together the school and community in a display of teamwork and school pride, was organized by LTCHS teachers Mark Graham, Ryan Hunter, and Turner Lachance.

“We chose to support the Central Alberta Women’s Emergency Shelter because of the crucial services they provide to women and children fleeing domestic violence,” said Chris Good, principal at LTCHS.

“The students showed incredible leadership, from securing sponsorships to cheering on their peers. The staff also gave their all, both on and off the ice. It was truly heartwarming to see the whole school come together for such an important cause.”

The MegaBowl has quickly become a beloved tradition at Lindsay Thurber, combining school spirit with a powerful commitment to community impact.

Past events have supported local organizations such as the Red Deer Food Bank and the Central Alberta Humane Society. This year’s fundraising total marks the highest in the event’s three-year history.

“We are incredibly proud of the success of this year’s MegaBowl,” added Good. “We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the students, staff, families, and community sponsors who made this event possible. We couldn’t have achieved this without their amazing support.”

The MegaBowl not only showcases school pride but also highlights the generosity of the Lindsay Thurber community in supporting local causes. With the event’s continued growth, it’s clear that the MegaBowl will remain a highlight of the school year for years to come.
