There will be plenty of happy faces in a couple of weeks with the return of the Tim Hortons Smiles Cookie Campaign

Whether its people enjoying the treat or if it's the cookies themselves.

The Humboldt District Health Foundation has been chosen as the recipients from the upcoming campaign.

Executive Director Lorrie Bunko is looking forward to interacting with the community throughout the week.

“It's an opportunity for us to connect with people throughout the district, people we haven't talked to for a long time.”

Bunko added, “It's a time for us to answer questions, and it's just a happy week. There are people, it just spreads a lot of laughter, smiles and after people of all ages and it's just it's about connection and we just really enjoy that.”

With the proceeds from the Smile Cookies, Bunko says they will go towards the upgrade of the pharmacy project. She noted so far, they’ve fundraised $250,000 and have just $39,000 left to fundraise.

The community support has already begun ahead of the Smile Cookies campaign, Bunko said they have already filled the volunteer positions to decorate the cookies.

“We're just always amazed with people that reply back, and they want to be able to help out and get some friends together to come decorate. We start at 6:30 in the morning. And those morning time slots, they fill up right away. So, we are very appreciative to the people who would like to come and help us. It's a huge help for Tim Horton's staff.”

Over 30 volunteers will be putting happy faces on the cookies.

To make sure that other communities get an opportunity to grab a cookie and help the foundation, Bunko says they will be travelling around the region selling the cookies.

“It's important that we spread these smiles throughout the district because our hospital serves the Humboldt district. And so sometimes it's easier for us just to hit the road with the inventory of cookies and set up on a street corner somewhere or in front of a town hall and sell cookies to the people in those communities.”

Even though the campaign begins on Monday, April 28, you can preorder an order of Smile Cookies. Forms can be found at the foundation's website click here.

Bunko added if you want to help with the campaign but would rather not have a cookie, she encourages you to purchase some cookies and donate to them groups like the residents of the St. Mary’s Villa, hospital staff, or the crew at Futuristic Industries.

The Smile Cookies campaign runs from Monday, April 28 until Sunday May 4.
