Rocky View Schools (RVS) has officially opened registration for its two online schools for the 2025–26 school year, welcoming students from across Alberta.
Summit Trails Online High School (Grades 10–12) and Discovery Trails Online School (Grades 1–9) provide fully virtual education tailored to student needs, with a mix of real-time instruction, independent study, online activities, and pre-recorded lessons.
“Many students truly shine in the online environment, and it is exciting to see them develop as learners,” said David Smith, Principal of Summit Trails. “They find their potential and their futures are limitless.”

The schools are open to any student in Alberta and are free to attend. The program is especially beneficial for families whose local school divisions may not offer a fully online option, or for students who need more flexibility in their schedules.
“We’ve had students tell us how much they have enjoyed our programs; they found a place to belong,” said Bob Rodgers, Principal of Discovery Trails. “Our teachers and administrators are committed to making sure every student gets what they need, and sometimes that’s just a space where they can truly be themselves.”
Each school maintains its own unique culture. Summit Trails places a strong emphasis on mental health and personalized pathways, while Discovery Trails encourages exploration and hands-on learning for younger students.
Summit Trails also works closely with high-performance student-athletes who balance school with demanding training and competition schedules.
“High school athletes walk a unique path of juggling school, training and competitions,” added Smith. “At Summit Trails we work alongside each student to create a flexible plan that sets them up for success in all areas of their lives.”
