The first fire advisory of the year has been issued for Rocky View County heading into the Easter long weekend.

This is due to increased fire risk due to current weather and ground conditions.

The advisory is now in effect county-wide and will remain in place until conditions improve, according to Rocky View County.

Rocky View County says the advisory reflects a moderate fire risk and will stay in place as long as conditions warrant.

During the advisory, all burning and fireworks permits are suspended, and open burning is prohibited. However, some activities are still allowed, including:

  • Indoor household fireplaces

  • Farm and acreage incinerators

  • Burning barrels

  • Camp stoves and barbecues (charcoal, propane, or natural gas)

  • Wood pellet grills

  • Propane or natural gas fire pits

  • Recreational campfires in approved burn pits

  • Chimeneas

  • Fires in designated and approved recreational areas

  • Oil well flaring (must be registered through central fire dispatch at 403-264-1022)
