The Weyburn Credit Union Spark Centre (CUSC) is gearing up for summer recreation as they open their outdoor sport facilities. Beginning with the opening of their tennis and pickleball courts earlier this week.

The Leisure Services Manager for the City of Weyburn, Amanda Wallace, explains these courts are open to key holders at any time and accessible to all ages.

“Court lights will stay on until 10 p.m. and keys for the court can be purchased at the Credit Union Spark Centre for $25. This provides you access to the courts at any time unless otherwise posted. If you already have a key, you can continue to use it and there is no need to pick up a new one.”

Keys can be purchased at the front desk, an Xplor Rec account is required to register, alongside filling out a questionnaire.

They are currently taking bookings for leagues, events, and tournaments as well. Lessons are also being provided by one of the CUSC instructors. Registration for lessons closes on June 7th.

There is currently no equipment provided, however pickleball paddles can be signed out for daily use at the front desk beginning in May.

“Something new this year, Weyburn Oil Women are donating about a dozen new sets of pickleball paddles that can be signed out and used at either court.”

Alongside the pickleball and tennis courts, these paddles can be used on the multi-use pad, otherwise known as the outdoor rink.

“The multi-use pad currently has four specialized pickleball surfaces and pickleball courts. At this point, we ask that there are no sticks, pucks, rollerblades, and other sports as it is specially designed court paint specific for pickleball use. If you're interested in utilizing that space, you can go anytime, aside from when Pickleball Weyburn is scheduled.”
