Update:
The snowfall warning is ended for Central Alberta.
Original:
Central Alberta residents are being advised to prepare for heavy snowfall and changing weather conditions across Alberta on Monday and into tonight.
Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a snowfall warning for parts of Clearwater County and Mountain View County.
Showers and flurries are expected throughout the day, with snow becoming more intense over higher terrain west of Highway 2. In these areas, localized snowfall amounts could reach between 10 to 15 centimetres, with some regions seeing totals as high as 20 centimetres by the time the system moves out.
Due to the convective nature of this storm, snowfall will vary greatly from one area to another, and conditions may shift rapidly.
Reduced visibility is likely at times due to heavy snow. Drivers are urged to be cautious: slow down in poor visibility, watch for brake lights ahead, and be ready to stop if needed. Road conditions may deteriorate quickly, especially in areas hit hardest by the snow.
The snowfall is expected to taper off by Tuesday morning.
If you need to travel, make sure to plan ahead. And when clearing snow, take regular breaks to avoid overexertion.
