An Aquatic Feasibility Study is being launched by the City of Weyburn to assess the next step in meeting the communities need for aquatic services. The city is calling for community input as part of this study.

According to a release sent by the City of Weyburn, the services of RC Strategies, a leading Canadian recreation and parks planning firm, has been retained to develop the study. It describes the study as a key part in ensuring “prudent and responsible decision making” given the significant municipal investment it will require.

Topics explored by the study will include enhancements to the delivery of service and facility design, including repairs and modernization, potential expansion, and even the construction of a new facility. The release states the study will be informed by “extensive research and meaningful engagement with residents and community groups and organizations.”

Factors taken into consideration will include the city’s population, demographics, policies, existing infrastructure, and finances, alongside current aquatic trends and practices.

The city is asking residents to take part in a survey that will provide an opportunity to share their thoughts on the city’s aquatic provisions which will be core to the feasibility study and subsequent decisions made.

Weyburn Mayor Jeff Richards is quoted saying “Weyburn thrives when we plan together. The feasibility study is about building a full picture of our community’s aquatic needs, and the resident survey is a key piece of that. We’re listening, learning and gathering the insight we need to make smart, community-driven decisions for the future.”

The survey opens today and will close on May 9th. More information can be found on the City of Weyburn website
