With spring here in the southeast, communities are getting ready for what they're hoping will be a busy construction season, with a number of projects moving forward. In Carlyle, that encompasses infrastructure, large and small, with some additional work getting done to add more members to the community.

Natalie Miller, Carlyle's CAO, talks about their current efforts to get their upcoming projects ready.

"We're currently right in the thick of our budget review. A few things that we're looking at through our budget is we're going into year three of a sewer relining project. You know, it's not the most glamorous project, but it's very important to our community."

Miller says that extending the lifespan of infrastructure, like through a sewer relining, can have a big impact on keeping the community running.

Paving is also a big project on their list. The town is taking a look at the potholes which have sprung up with the spring and seeing what they can do.

While it's not specifically a town project, Miller points out that they're seeing some new builds come into town for the first time in a while.

"One of the probably the most exciting things for our community right now is we have a couple of new residential houses that will be starting soon in our newest subdivision. It's been a few years since we've had any new builds in the area, so that's super exciting for us here."

Their biggest project on their radar is their brand new school. Miller noted that the project is still in its infancy stage and there's still a lot of work to be done.

"We're really excited about having the new school in our community. It'll be a combined school, pre-k to grade 12, with a daycare in it, so we're just ready to get that project rolling. SaskBuilds and the school division are currently working through the design details, and we're awaiting the tender for the general contractor to go out here, probably in the new year."

The province is currently tracking an expected opening date of January 2027 for the school.

Another town project has them looking at their outdoor pool, with plenty of work on the docket.

"We're repairing some of the failing walls in the deep area of the pool, upgrading the piping and the filtration system, and a new liner. So Paradise Pools has been out working on this project in the last few weeks."

Miller says she hopes to see the pool open by mid-June so that they can have close to a full season for the community.
