There are signs of Spring across Winkler, including a variety of public works related clean-up operations. Mayor Henry Siemens says street cleaning has been underway for about two weeks, already.

"People that have been out and about in the community will notice we started both street sweeping and sidewalk sweeping on April 8th," he shared during In the Mayor's Chair. "You may also have noticed there was a new street sweeper out there. We took possession of our new street sweeper late last year. It's on the road now, doing a fantastic job. Our previous model was a 2005 model, and had put in its time, and needed to be retired."

The city invested $371,000 in purchasing the new piece of equipment.

Public Service Request Portal launched

Meanwhile, Siemens also highlighted during the conversation a new way for residents to report issues and request services through an online Public Service Request Portal.

"It's an ability for residents to report issues and request services directly from the city," he explained. "Whether it's road repair, waste collection concerns or bylaw inquiries or really any other municipal need, this system ensures your request is quickly directed to the right department for prompt attention. If you go to the bottom of our homepage, you'll see how to go about doing it. It's a very straightforward process right now on our website."
