There are two major reasons why those planning to participate in Bike Cochrane's bike swap on Saturday, April 26, should act now.

Today is the deadline to preregister bikes for sale at the now-annual event. It will be held at the lower barn of the Cochrane and District Agricultural Society from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., with bike intake taking place between 9 and 10 a.m.

The preregistration fee is $15 for up to three bikes until 9 p.m. tonight. The fee increases to $30 on the day of the event.

Paul Perrault, Bike Cochrane's operations manager, says preregistering also provides an opportunity to promote the bikes on their social media channels.

After selling more than 130 bikes at last year’s inaugural event, organizers say they’re already seeing a surge in registrations and are expecting an even bigger turnout.

The event is not designed as a fundraiser, but rather as a service to the community. Unlike other bike swaps in communities such as Invermere and Canmore, which often charge sellers between 10 and 20 per cent of the sale price, the Cochrane event keeps things simple and affordable.

“We’re all about getting more bikes into the hands of more people,” says Paul Perrault, Bike Cochrane's operations manager. “There are so many bikes sitting unused in garages. Our event is about connecting those bikes with riders who need them.”
