A citizen's call led to charges being laid in Weyburn last week, reporting someone was kicking the door of a residence.

When officers arrived, they discovered significant damage to the residence. They soon located the suspect who was taken into custody.

“Through that investigation, a person that was on a house arrest was found to be the guilty party, and they were held in custody.”

The suspect was remanded in custody in part due to the house arrest violation, and the nature of the incident.

“With this offence, you might be held anyway to be taken before a judge, just to be put on maybe some stricter conditions. It always depends on the circumstance, but definitely in this case with the person already on conditions and not to leave his residence, for the safety of the community, definitely held, taken before a judge.”

The charges laid include mischief over $5000 and failure to comply with a release order. St. John explains they will get estimates for damages, but the value in this circumstance was apparent.

“Especially if it's windows, say it's a picture window, I'm not sure what was the circumstance in this case, but doors and windows can get up over $5,000 very quickly, so this was clear to the officers that it was over $5,000.”

The suspect appeared in court earlier this week.

In total the Weyburn Police Service responded to 103 calls for service between April 14th to 20th. A total of 21 charges were laid with 11 under the Criminal Code of Canada, 19 under the Traffic Safety Act, and one under the Summary Offences Procedure Act.
