Safe Communities Humboldt welcomes the return of the P.A.R.T.Y. program this May for students in Humboldt and the surrounding area.

P.A.R.T.Y. stands for Preventing Alcohol and Risk related Trauma in Youth, and the interactive program has been a staple is Safe Communities Humboldt offerings for the past 20 years.

The P.A.R.T.Y. Program is a dynamic, interactive, injury prevention and health promotion program for teenagers to educate them about the consequences of risk-taking behaviors.

A release from Safe Communities states, “The typical P.A.R.T.Y. Program Day is a full day session (9:30am-2:30pm) for 80-100 Grade 9-12 students on each day. The majority of the event is held at the Humboldt Uniplex and utilizes local resources and facilities. Students follow the paths of injury survivors and meet the professionals who are involved in a trauma situation.”

Paramedics and Firefighters, RCMP, Therapists, Emergency Room Nurses, and Counselors or Social Workers assist students in experiencing the impact on a trauma patient’s physical and mental health and their journey to recovery. Students also have the opportunity to witness a mock crash scene and visit a local funeral home and hear from a local coroner.  Volunteers and local SADD students assist participants to assume a simulated “disability” during lunch time. This exercise is intended to provide some difficulty to students as they eat and to remind students that such simple tasks are often taken for granted. To end the day, injury survivors talk to students about their own personal experiences and how their lives have been changed.

“The P.A.R.T.Y. Program event day for HCI will be May 7th, and on May 8th,  Annaheim, Bruno, Cudworth, Lake Lenore, LeRoy, Muenster and Watson will be in attendance,” says Safe Communities Humboldt Director Amanda Hauber.

Many partners continue to be involved with the program as it enters its third decade, including Nutrien, BHP, the City of Humboldt, the Humboldt Fire Dept & Protective Services, Humboldt & Lanigan RCMP and Humboldt & District Ambulance Service, Discovery Towing, the Humboldt & District Health Complex and the SHA, Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Chapel, Schuler Lefebvre Funeral Home, Southland Bus, Saskatchewan Coroners Service, Cody Demarais, participating area schools and all volunteers.
