This weekend, the Children's Hospital Book Market will be set up at St. Vital Centre to celebrate their 65th annual event.
This year's book market, in support of the Children's Hospital in Winnipeg, is their biggest event to date.
"I have been involved with the Children's Hospital Book Market for over 33 years," says volunteer Carol Irving. "I've been the volunteer coordinator since 2004. We started in 1961, so we are in our 65th year now."
Irving says it takes over 300 volunteers to make an event like this happen, as there are over 300,000 books available for resale. They range in price from 50 cents to $100 for some of the rare finds.
"We've been raising funds for both the Children's Hospital research foundation as well as the Children's Hospital itself. All of the money we raise stays right here in Winnipeg."
Another volunteer, Linda Gallant, has been volunteering with the book market for over three decades.
"I love books," says Gallant. "When I first started, I wanted to encourage my own daughters, who were teenagers at the time, to do volunteer work, and they have. They moved on, and I'm still here. Especially if you love books, this is the place to be."
People interested in volunteering, whether that's at the archives or at the book market, can find all the information here.
The Children’s Hospital Book Market 65th Anniversary sale runs this Friday April 25 until Sunday, April 27 at St. Vital Centre.
