Cochrane’s skateboarding community is getting a major boost this summer with the addition of a brand-new skatepark in Fireside.

The project is part of a community enhancement initiative led by the Fireside Homeowners Association and supported by Calbridge Developments, in partnership with Shredz Shop and Newline Skateparks.

Construction is expected to begin in June and wrap up by October.

The new park, which will be located between the existing pump tracks and playground on the south side of Fireside’s central park, is designed to be beginner-friendly and accessible for younger riders.

Sam Stuart, owner of Cochrane’s Shredz Shop, helped bring the idea to life after voicing concerns about the lack of kid-friendly spaces for learning to ride. He says the new facility will help alleviate the high traffic at the downtown skatepark while offering easier access for residents in other neighbourhoods.
