Grants are a huge part of helping organizations and schools in the area keep programs running. Fort la Reine School was just announced as the recipient of a grant involving a member of the Portage Terriers.

Principal Matt Harkness outlines who the grant came from and how much they will be receiving.

"We'd just like to thank the RBC and MJHL Community Ambassador, Cameron Bullinger, from the Portage Terriers, who donated $1,000 to our school," Harkness continues. "We're not sure yet how we'll use the donation, but we will definitely use it for our students and programming here at school, and we're very grateful to be chosen this year."

Bullinger notes that the decision came through having discussion with his teammates, several of whom worked in the school division through the season.

"Just talking to the guys, and most of them worked at different schools. And it just seemed like that was a school that needed a little more attention than some others, so that's why I felt the money should go to that school."

Bullinger adds that he would be remiss to not shout out his teammates for their efforts in Portage la Prairie.

"It's a group effort, and I think it showed the character that we had on our team. It wasn't just me, it was a bunch of the guys on our team, whether it was working in the schools or helping in the community."
