Edward Marciniak

FEBRUARY 15, 1951 – NOVEMBER 25, 2021

Edward Michael Marciniak, born February 15, 1951, passed away on Thursday, November 25, 2021 at the age of 70 after a battle with brain cancer. He is survived by his loving wife Dawn of 46 years, their dog Stella, brothers Benny and Ron Olejnikow and sister Betty Dube. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Janet Desjarlais, sisters-in-law, Cindy (Mark) Schumacher, Michelle (Tim) Francis and brothers-in-law, Russell (Mary Lynn) Desjarlais and Darren (Renita) Desjarlais and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Ed was predeceased by his mother Theresa Olejnikow, sister Addie McGowan, brother-in-law Don McGowan and his father-in-law Leo Desjarlais who was like a father figure to him right from the time he and Dawn started dating. Having grown up in Kenora, Ed and Dawn loved camping and boating and they eventually bought property on Lake of the Woods where Ed built a beautiful summer cottage that they enjoyed for 35 years. His talents as a carpenter also led to him to building a gorgeous home in Lakeside where he and Dawn spent almost 30 years. Ed and Dawn also did amazing wooden art crafts that they would sell for several years at the Holiday Inn Christmas Art and Craft sale. His love for animals brought them many pets over the years including Irish Wolfhounds, tropical fish, a cockatiel bird, Himalayan cats and eventually their golden doodle Stella who misses him like crazy. Ed was educated as a heavy duty mechanic and also learned to machine and weld while working at Kenora Machine. He was truly a master of anything he endeavored, from carpentry, to electrical, to plumbing, you name it, he could do it. He later worked at LOTW Electric where he learned to do electrical work and worked on generators. This brought him to his last career at Cummins Western Canada where he was branch manager. There he learned more about generators and taught himself to learn solar power. Ed loved what he did and started a side business called Empower where he sold and installed solar equipment to many camps and cottages including their own. After retirement, they purchased a home in Cocoa Beach, Florida where they spent their winters relaxing, going to the beach, shopping and enjoying great restaurants. Ed would walk for 60-90 minutes every morning and enjoyed every step. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Dawn thankfully requests that donations be made to either It’s A Dog’s Life or the Kenora Cat Shelter.
