The swimming community, including the Cochrane Comets, is rallying to raise funds for Hudson Blough to support his recovery from a serious skiing accident in Banff.

On March 30, the 15-year-old collided with a tree and suffered a traumatic brain injury and a broken jaw. His friends quickly called for help, and emergency protocol was initiated. Hudson was rushed down the hill by ski patrol and taken by STARS air ambulance to Foothills Hospital in critical, life-threatening condition.

To battle the injury, he was placed in a medically induced coma.

"In the weeks following the accident, the Bloughs have been living a reality no parent or family should have to go through," states the plea for donations. "Hudson’s loving parents, Matt and Abby, have stayed by his bedside day and night. While Hudson’s body was silently fighting to recover, his family was praying for a miracle."

While he remains in hospital, Hudson is making great strides toward recovery. The life supports that had been keeping him alive have begun to be reduced or removed, and his brain and body are healing a little more each day.

Traumatic brain injuries cannot be rushed, and it is expected to be a long road to recovery for the young man.

"There are still many uncertainties in his recovery that will be better understood in time."

A fundraising drive has been launched by the Calgary Patriots, with support encouraged by the Cochrane Comets, with whom he also swam. All proceeds will go directly to the Blough family to support Hudson's ongoing rehabilitation and recovery.
