Airdrie-Cochrane candidates are making their final push on the campaign trail ahead of tomorrow’s federal election.

Polling stations open tomorrow at 7:30 a.m. and remain open until 7:30 p.m. Your polling location is on the voter's information card delivered to your home address.

If you haven't received one, full details are available through Elections Canada here

Identfication is required to vote and can be proven three different ways.

Option 1: Show one of these pieces of ID

  • your driver's licence
  • any other card issued by a Canadian government (federal, provincial/territorial or local) with your photo, name and current address

Option 2: Show two pieces of ID

Both must have your name and at least one must have your current address.

Examples:

  • voter information card and bank statement
  • utility bill and student ID card

Don't have these? No problem!

See the list of accepted ID for Option 2.

Option 3: If you don't have ID

You can still vote if you declare your identity and address in writing and have someone who knows you and who is assigned to your polling station vouch for you.

The voucher must be able to prove their identity and address. A person can vouch for only one person (except in long-term care facilities).

Airdrie-Cochrane riding candidates: Christopher Bell, Christian Heritage Party; Blake Richards, Conservative Party of Canada; David Sabine, Libertarian Party of Canada; Sean Secord, Liberal Party of Canada; and Sarah Zagoda, New Democratic Party.

Liberal Sean Secord, the lone candidate from Cochrane, continues to campaign this weekend, making the most of the 37-day election period.

"We've hit most neighbourhoods in Cochrane and Airdrie and a few rural areas in between," he said. "For a short campaign, we've tried to connect with as many people as possible, find out their priorities and concerns, and share our platform, along with a bit about myself and what I bring to this riding."

Secord praised his team of volunteers, some of whom adjusted their work schedules to lend a hand.

"It's been amazing. People have stepped forward, offered to help, and made themselves available."

Blake Richards, who has represented Cochrane for the Conservatives since first being elected in 2008, and his team have maintained a hectic pace, knocking on doors and making public appearances.

"We're trying to spend as much time in each community as we can," Richards said. "We've knocked on virtually every door in both Airdrie and Cochrane to reach out to voters and ask for their support.

"We're happy with the feedback we've been getting, but at the same time saddened by the struggles people are facing. I'm hoping on April 28 we'll get the chance to turn that around and make a real difference."

Polls suggest the Liberals have improved their fortunes under new leader Mark Carney. Richards, however, says he’s never relied on polling, instead focusing on what he hears from people directly.

"Everything I've seen and heard — from the crowds at Pierre’s (Poilievre) rallies to knocking on doors here and across the country — tells a very different story from the polls," he said. "We're making sure to talk to as many voters as possible to help them with their decision. I know we have a plan that can make a real difference, put Canada first, and help people with the cost of living and the struggles they face."
