"We started a little slow there, a little bit of nerves, a big crowd tonight," Wolverines head coach Kevin Schafer told Country 94.1's Local Sports Live postgame show. "We've been in the rink only a few times together, not making any excuses for tonight, but we're a much better team than the way we played."
The Mustangs came flying out of the gates, scoring three times in the first night minutes of the game, one each from Chase McKee, Braxton Mac Angus, and Gilroy. Swift Current cut the deficit to 3-1 before the end of the period thanks to a Schafer tally.
Mac Angus and Cornelson traded goals early in the second before Gilroy and Salikin pushed the Mustangs' edge to 6-2. Cornelson found the back of the net before the end of the period, making it 6-4 in favour of Moose Jaw.
Ryder Turko cut the Mustangs' lead to 6-5 early in the third period, but Moose Jaw answered with a pair, regaining a three-goal lead 8-5. Schafer, Carter Lamotte, and Simpson all scored for the Wolverines within 56 seconds, tying the game at 8-8. The Mustangs took a 9-8 lead with 6 minutes left, but Swift Current answered as Lamotte and Turko notched their second goals of the game, giving the Wolverines a 10-9 lead. Gilroy tied it with 2:04 left in the game before Isnana provided the winner for Moose Jaw.
