RONA Weyburn will host a Spring Home Show and Networking Event on Thursday, May 1st, from noon to midnight at the Weyburn Agricultural Society's Exhibition Hall, featuring truckloads of samples and personnel from all of their suppliers, as well as representatives from some of Weyburn's non-profit organizations, complementary businesses, and the City of Weyburn.
It's the perfect opportunity for contractors and their clients, as well as DIYers, to learn all they can about what will work best for their projects.
With more than 40 booths and 60 vendors, Store Owner Jeff Chessall said they want to show Weyburn what RONA Weyburn has to offer.
"Whether it's for siding, kitchens, flooring, tools, you name it, our vendors are coming."
In addition to local business vendors complementary to home renovations, local organizations on hand will include the Weyburn Theatre Community Service Cooperative, the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings, and the Weyburn Humane Society.
The 19+ event will include hot dogs at lunch time, burgers at supper time, and even liquor - with safe rides home courtesy of vehicles from Barber Motors.
"It's not fancy, it's just fun. It's very casual. We just want the Weyburn and surrounding area to come check out what we have to offer. There's going to be thousands in raffle prizes. We'll have free swag for everybody, plus lots of RONA swag, RONA water bottles," shared Chessall.
"It's all free. Bring some cash in case you want to buy some raffle tickets, or maybe you want to make a donation to the theatre."
The Red Wings will be making the draw for their golf cart package raffle during the event that evening, the WHS will be selling tickets for their 2025 Jeep Compass North 4x4 raffle, and the Theatre Group will have popcorn and information available for those hoping to support the future Spark Cinema.
The City of Weyburn will have information on their commercial and residential building incentives.
"Many may not know that there's an incentive for if you do some renos on your home, you will get a tax break on it," Chessall noted. "We'll have Brandon from Dimension Designs there. So if you're planning upgrades or an addition to your house, or a home theatre, he's the one who can design those plans."
He said while the event in some ways hearkens back to the days of the 'Weyburn Farm, Home & Leisure Show', it's also a chance to save on products from each of the store's suppliers.
'We do have about a two-week period where all the vendors there have anywhere from five to 20 per cent off all their products. We have lots of contractors that buy cases of caulking, tons of Poly if they have plans of getting some siding jobs done or window packages done, and they can save 12 per cent on window packages. So whether you're a contractor or a homeowner, you get the deal."
Chessall said his goal is for RONA Weyburn to be top of mind for local contractors, with the event also serving as a thank-you to those who they work with regularly. He also encourages contractors to bring their clients along to make the best informed decisions about their upcoming projects.
"Then it's not just them or me necessarily saying, 'it's the best'. They get to decide from the four different siding companies who they feel are the best. You come into a store, you just see this wall of stuff, and it can be intimidating and it's good to talk to every separate supplier and get their take on it."
"Maybe you haven't bought from us before, but you've dealt with GenTech siding for 20 years. Come talk to the GenTech rep. That's what it's all about, is the networking. That's a big part of the event. It's great to gain the knowledge. Maybe you only get one or two things out of it, but it just puts everyone together."
So far, Chessall said they have three big truckloads of product set to be on display at the hall, with plans to build an ICF mini-basement at the show.
"All of these suppliers are the factory reps, so many, from all over Canada. They have the knowledge, they definitely all know their product, and they're here to help everyone, whether it is a contractor, a do-it-yourselfer, or someone who just wants to plan ahead for a year down the road. These will be the ones to help you out."
