The nation heads to the polls today to elect a new government.
Polls in Manitoba are open until 8:30 p.m. tonight, and if you're heading out to cast your ballot, here’s what you need to bring and know.
Bring your voter information card and a piece of photo ID with you to your polling station.
Your voter information card will tell you exactly where you need to vote.
If you didn't receive a card, you can find your polling information by entering your postal code here.
Three ways to prove your identity
There are three options for providing ID at your polling station:
Option 1: Show one piece of government-issued ID
Bring a piece of ID with your photo, name, and current address, such as:
-
A driver’s licence
-
Any other card issued by a Canadian federal, provincial/territorial, or local government
Option 2: Show two pieces of ID
Bring two pieces of ID that both show your name, and at least one must have your current address.
Examples include:
-
Your voter information card and a bank statement
-
A utility bill and a student ID card
If you’re unsure if your ID qualifies, you can check the full list of accepted ID for Option 2 here.
Option 3: If you don't have ID
You can still vote by declaring your identity and address in writing and having someone who knows you vouch for you.
The voucher must:
-
Be assigned to your polling station
-
Show their own proof of identity and address
(Note: A person can vouch for only one person, except in long-term care facilities.)
Election results
We'll have live election results starting tonight on our website and app as soon as they begin coming in!
Elections Canada now releases results from eastern parts of the country as they come in, even if polls are still open in the west.
That means we expect to start seeing results around 6 p.m. CDT.
Stay with us for up-to-the-minute updates throughout the evening!
