It’s going to be a great weekend to get outside for some baseball training. That’s what’s lined up for youth ball players at the Marysburg Field when youth ball players gather for the 14th Marysburg Royals Ball Camp. The camp goes with two days, this Saturday, May 3 and Sunday the 4th.

Organizer Curtis Strueby says many players have passed through the camps over the years, and some have in fact returned to add to the training regimen.

“It’s been a great response over the years, and this one is no different,” says Strueby. “Our Day 1 is this Saturday for kids born in 2015 – 1018 is completely full. The next day is the camp for those born in 2012 – 2014. That one still has some spots available.”

The success of the camp rests on the shoulders of volunteer coaches and Marysburg Royals players who come out to guide the youth.

“There are coaches and players who have worked with different age groups of Team Saskatchewan. They are high quality coaches, and a number of our players have played upper tier baseball. There are guys like Cole Bauml and Nick Anderson who have played at that level and worked with kids in the past.”

Curtis and Paul Strueby and Brett Suchan are just a few of the names lending their considerable coaching skills to the two days where campers will touch on many aspects of the offensive and defensive game.

Players looking to get into the second day of camp for those designated years can call or text Curtis Strueby at (306) 231-6392.

Once the annual camp wraps up, the Royals themselves will be on the field gearing up for another season with the Saskatoon Senior Baseball League. The Marysburg squad is anchored by largely the same veteran players with some new additions recently graduated from 18U programs.

“The league itself has a new team, the River Pirates, made up of a number of players recently out of 18U play. The league has a bit of a new look with a new executive coming in and the addition of the Game Changer app. There are a lot of good things happening in the league.”

The Game Changer app allows fans to follow the action in real time whether at the game or elsewhere.

It’s the 107th season of baseball for the historic team who call Marysburg their home. With a crew of younger players stepping up to take on leadership and administrative duties, the team is in great shape to provide great baseball entertainment for years to come.

The schedule for the summer, which has home games for the Royals as weekend double-headers, will be released shortly.
