The Oxbow Swimming Pool has been hard at work raising funds ahead of the upcoming swimming season. With events and donations from local community members, they are getting ready to dive into another fun summer.

"Fundraising is essential to contributing to our operating expenses, enhancing our facilities, assisting with loan repayment, and expanding our programming at the pool throughout the operating season," said Catrina Craig, chairperson for the Oxbow Community Swimming Pool.

In March, Oxbow held its first Pickleball Tournament, with support from local teams. “They did donate the use of their equipment for our pickleball tournament, and then the Community Swimming Pool Board was responsible for organizing and scheduling the tournament for our fundraisers. The pickleball community certainly helped spread the word so that we could get more teams involved,” Craig explained.

Vermillion Energy has also stepped up to sponsor the weekly free swims on Wednesdays. “We always have a really great turnout for free afternoon swims,” said Craig, adding that local companies have expressed interest in sponsoring similar events throughout the summer. “We’re looking forward to scheduling more events and sharing details soon.”

The pool is an essential component of the Oxbow community. “It provides a safe, enjoyable environment for recreational activities, swimming lessons, and social interaction,” Craig said. “I’d say the pool plays a significant role in enhancing the overall well-being of our community.”

The funding raised helps with programming and upkeep of the pool, which is utilized by surrounding communities like Alameda, the RM of Enniskillen, and Moose Creek. These communities also benefit from the summer programs available at the pool.

Exciting events are on the horizon for the pool. In addition to the pickleball tournament, there are several other fundraisers scheduled for 2025, including a supper at the Oxbow Farmers Market on July 31st, a pancake breakfast on August 10th following the Bow Valley Jamboree, and burgers with a beer garden at the Alameda Agricultural Jackpot, Fair & Regional Show & Sale on June 13th.

While the Oxbow Swimming Pool typically hosts Lobster Fest as its main fundraiser, Craig noted that this year, they are supporting the Oxbow Community Rink in hosting the event on June 21st to raise funds for a new ice plant. "We look forward to hosting Lobster Fest again in the future."

“We’ve successfully raised a significant amount through our fundraising efforts planned for the year,” Craig shared. "However, additional funds from our upcoming fundraisers are certainly appreciated as they help us improve the operation and experience at the pool by enhancing facilities, expanding programming, and assisting with the loan repayment.”

The Oxbow Swimming Pool remains a beloved and integral part of the community, offering a space for residents to gather, swim, and enjoy a variety of recreational activities.
