The southeast is seeing a thunderstorm on the horizon this afternoon, threatening to deposit a good bit of rain and potentially produce some lightning today. That's being tracked by Environment and Climate Change Canada, which is taking a look to see what the storm will bring.

Meteorologist Danielle Desjardins says the storm will actually bring in some cooling weather.

"We're looking at a little bit of a cold front that's going to sweep through southern Saskatchewan. So there is a slight risk of a thunderstorm later this afternoon and into the evening period."

A lack of instability in the system means that the southeast will see a lot of showery weather, with a good chance that most areas will be soaked.

With that storm, lightning will also be striking in a few areas, with DEsajrdins offering some advice.

"Definitely stay sky aware. So if you do see that the sky is darkening, definitely keep an eye out for adverse weather. Stay up to date with the latest weather information on our WeatherCan app as well. If there are any watches or warnings issued, that will have the latest and greatest information."

In case you do get caught outdoors during a storm, Desjardins recommends that people head indoors to a safe area immediately.

The southeast's fortunes will soon change, as Desjardins says to expect warmer temperatures heading into the weekend following the cold front.
