The Weyburn Police Service responded to an assault occurring at a local business last Tuesday, resulting in the arrest of two men. 

Corporal Ryan Chernaiwsky with the WPS describes the incident as a “very concerning matter”. It occurred in the early hours of April 22nd, when the victim entered a Weyburn business.  

“Upon entering the business, they were knocked to the ground and assaulted. Once on the ground, the victim's hands and feet were bound. They were then placed in a chair and further assaulted.” 

The victim was reported to have been punched in the face a number of times, then bound with zip ties and placed on a chair before being further assaulted. The two men continued punching the victim and striking the victim’s leg with a weapon.  

“There was a sledgehammer involved as well that had been used defensively on the victim. Eventually, they were able to escape and flee with minor injuries.” 

A 27-year-old man and 33-year-old man were arrested in connection to the matter, charged laid include assault, assault with a weapon, and forcible confinement. Both were remanded in custody pending court appearances. 

The 27-year-old appeared this morning at Weyburn Provincial Court, the 33-year-old will appear in Estevan Provincial Court this Thursday, May 1st.  

The Weyburn Police Service responded to 78 calls for service during the period of April 21st to April 27th. A total of 24 charges resulted, with 18 laid under the Criminal Code of Canada, five under the Traffic Safety Act, and one under the Summary Offence Procedures Act.
