Smile Cookies are back at Tim Horton's this week, and once again the proceeds are going to the Weyburn and District Hospital Foundation.

"Smile Cookies is on this week until May 4th," said WDHF Office Manager Whitney Johnson. "You can buy single cookies for $2, or a box of 12."

"New this year, they also have Smiles Cookie reversible plushies that are $5 each, and then $2 of that will go towards the Foundation."

With last year's Smile Cookies campaign raising more than $13,000 for WDHF, it's a worthwhile effort for the organization's board members, who have been volunteering at Tim Horton's to decorate cookies in the mornings.

"We have a lot of our foundation board members volunteering, some of their friends. The shifts have decreased from last year, so we only need about half the people we're able to mostly manage ourselves."

To kick off the week, the team from the Weyburn Chamber of Commerce, Weyburn Tourism, and Weyburn Regional Economic Development were decorating Smile Cookies on Monday.

Johnson said she hopes they can raise even more funds this year, which is why they encourage people to buy them by the dozen.

"I don't think ordering a dozen is an issue. I think if you're going to order a few dozen, it would be smart to pre-order. There is a pre-order form on our website that people can fill out and submit to Tim Horton's. If you are ordering a large amount they request 48 hours notice before you pick up," she explained.

The WDHF has also started a social media campaign called, "tag, you're it!'

"You can buy a box of cookies and then post online and tag another business or two to do the same, so to hopefully increase sales a little bit," she noted. "Then if someone wants to kind of do something nice or pay it forward, you can buy a cookie in the drive-through in line and gift it to the person behind you."

Funds raised go toward ensuring the current Weyburn General Hospital and future WGH still under construction are equipped with equipment and furnishings.
