Golfers can dust off their clubs and hit the greens once again.

The Humboldt Golf Club will officially open the course to golfers tomorrow (May 1) morning at 9:00 am. The range opened last week, giving golfers a chance to finetune their swing before they hit the links.

Crews have been busy over the last couple of weeks getting the course ready for the new season.

Finance Manager Michael Weber says that Superintendent of the golf course Glen Wildeman reported that the course wintered very well.

He noted there is some snow mould on the fairways and in the rough, but Wildeman expects that will disappear with the addition of warmer weather.

The start date of May 1 is later than normal for the golf course, said Weber.

“This is a little bit of a later start for us, usually we’re able to get going the last 7-10 days of April.”

Throughout the winter there was frequent sightings of wildlife at the golf course including moose, but Weber noted there wasn’t much impact to the course other than some damage to the trees and with traffic set to become steady at the course, the wildlife will likely travel elsewhere.

Some of the annual tournaments that the golf course is looking to host once again include the Father’s Day tournament, a Par 3 tournament along with the Humboldt Broncos Memorial Golf Tournament.

In July, the Humboldt Golf Course will be hosting the Amateur and Mid-Amateur Women’s along with the Amateur and Mid-Amateur Men’s Championships.

The Humboldt Golf Course will be holding their annual general meeting on Tuesday, May 13 at 7:00 pm at the clubhouse. The meeting is open to members and non-members with news and finances of the golf course to be discussed.

You can book a tee time at the golf course, by either calling the pro shop at (306) 682-3833 or you can do so online at humboldtgolfclub.ca
