Lacombe County says they will continue participation in Alberta's Golf Cart Pilot Project.
Launched in the spring of 2024, this five-year provincial initiative allows municipalities to authorize golf cart operation on designated local highways, providing an efficient and environmentally friendly transportation alternative.
In Lacombe County:
- Operators must be at least 14 years old and hold a minimum Class 7 (Learner's) driver’s license to ensure basic traffic law understanding.
- Golf carts are only permitted to operate during daylight hours—specifically, from one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset.
- The number of passengers cannot exceed available seats.
- Towing vehicles or equipment is not allowed.
To ensure compliance with Lacombe County bylaws, all golf carts must be permitted annually and display the corresponding decal prominently on the front of the cart. Operators must also carry a minimum of $2,000,000 in liability insurance coverage.
