A unique community choir in Cochrane is using the power of music to bring joy and healing.
The Good Vibes Memory Choir supports people living with memory loss, including dementia, as well as their caregivers, students, and volunteers.
“It’s just a really joy-filled time,” says artistic director and conductor Erica Phare-Bergh. “It’s my favorite time of the week.”

Founded after her success with similar choirs in Victoria, Erica says research shows music not only lifts spirits but can significantly slow cognitive decline. “They even found it was more effective than drugs,” she says.

The choir’s spring concert, Put A Little Love In Your Heart, is set for Saturday, May 10 at 3 p.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Admission is by donation.
“We want the community to know this kind of joyful, healing connection exists,” says Phare-Bergh.
