Cecilia McCaskill is gearing up for the opportunity of a lifetime — representing Team Canada at the Roller Derby World Cup in Australia — and the community has a chance to help her get there.
McCaskill, a player and assistant coach with her local roller derby club, has been selected to compete on the national stage, and the club is organizing a trade show to support her journey.
“The trade show is to support me going to the World Cup, just to help fundraise to get me there,” she said.
The event will take place at the Wylie Mitchell building from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with admission by donation. Visitors can expect food, door prizes, and a variety of local vendors. All funds raised will go directly toward McCaskill’s travel expenses.
In addition to the trade show, she's also running a bottle drive. Supporters can donate by using the TC Canada code through Sarcan's Drop and Go service, which will ensure the funds are directed to her campaign.
Before heading to Australia, McCaskill will attend a practice camp in Toronto over the May long weekend. She said she’s excited not just to compete, but also to connect with roller derby athletes from around the world.
“It’s super exciting. It’ll be a really fun time,” she said. “The community’s super awesome to just be around, so it’ll be fun to be around people who are in the same community, but in different countries.”
For those interested in helping her on her international adventure, attending the trade show or donating bottles through Sarcan are great ways to show support.
