One local girl’s big prize on the lake has led to some hardware on land.

This past weekend, Alexis Klashinsky attended the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation Banquet in Balgonie.

She received the 1st place award for catching the largest Pike in her age category (24 lb 10 oz). Klashinsky was able to reel in the fish during her family’s annual ice fishing trip at Tobin Lake in March of 2024.Alexis was 11 at the time when she reeled in the big prize.

Alexis credits her family, especially her dad, Dayton for inspiring her love of the outdoors.

“My parents always took us out on the boat in the summer and in the fishing shack in the winter. My dad has a great passion for fishing, that’s who I get it from.”

Winning the award has special meaning for Klashinsky as she claimed plenty of bragging rights.

“It means that I placed first place in my age category in Saskatchewan, I also beat my family that weekend by catching the biggest fish.”

To qualify for awards with the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation, you need to be a member. Klashinsky is a member of the Lucien Lake Wildlife Federation. If you’re interested in becoming a member, you contact swf.lucienlake@gmail.com
