The community-favourite event, Light Up Okotoks, has won the 2025 Canadian Event Award for Best Event for a City or Municipality.  

Mayor Tanya Thorn and Connie Drake, Community Events Specialist, accepted the award in Toronto on April 30.  

"Winning this award is a tremendous honour and speaks volumes about the passion, dedication, and community spirit that defines Okotoks," said Thorn. "Our team, our volunteers, and our entire community share in this achievement."

Light Up Okotoks has kicked off the holiday season in the community for over three decades, transforming the downtown core into a festive wonderland with twinkling lights, music and carolers, wagon rides, markets, firepits, and a fireworks show.  

"Every year, we strive to create an unforgettable experience that captures the heart of our community and shows the warmth and spirit of the holiday season," said Drake. "Receiving this award is a beautiful validation of our hard work and commitment to making Light Up Okotoks a standout event year after year."  

The Canadian Event Awards recognize municipalities that achieve excellence in community impact, logistics, sustainability, risk management, and engagement.  

The Award for Best Event for a City or Municipality highlights events that foster community spirit, support local businesses, and create lasting memories for residents and visitors.   

Planning for next year's event is already underway, with the town planning new features to make the festival even more memorable for attendees.
