"You are not alone. We mourn with you, stand with you, and hold you close to our hearts."
"May the victims be at peace and the families left behind find strength and courage."
"Deepest condolences for this senseless tragedy. Our hearts are with you and all of your families."
"We Stand Together with You."

These were among the many messages shared during a prayer vigil held May 2 in the heart of Historic Downtown Cochrane, mourning the unimaginable loss of 11 lives at the Vancouver Lapu-Lapu Filipino Festival.
Candles were lit, flowers were laid, prayers were spoken aloud and in silence, and words of compassion and hope were exchanged.
"Honouring the lives lost and praising those who survive brings knowledge to each and every one of us," said Mila Prout, president of the Filipino-Canadian Association of Cochrane Alberta, during her brief but heartfelt address. "There is strength in our unity and resilience in our community. Let us be the beacon of hope, shining light in the darkness and guiding each other toward healing and peace."

In his remarks, Mayor Jeff Genung reflected on Cochrane’s vibrant Filipino community and the hope it brings to many.
“Let’s continue building a community where everyone feels safe, seen and valued,” he said. “It is in honouring those we've lost that we find renewed purpose in strengthening the bonds that hold us together. Cochrane strong.”
Town councillor Susan Flowers spoke about the need to support those facing mental health challenges, a concern central to the tragedy.
“We can support each other with love and prayers, as we all need to heal from this,” she said. “We can advocate for more mental health programs across the country and reach out to those in our community who are suffering.”

Other speakers included Fleeha Ahmad, Rockyview Immigrant Services coordinator, and Peter Lantos, vice-chair of the Cochrane Immigrant Services Committee. FCACA vice-president Edward Aguanta led the vigil. Music included a performance by Rafael Manlutac performed "Your Heart Today" and the playing of "Amazing Grace."
