Update: Sunday, May 4th

According to Wildfire Alberta, the wildfire west of Sundre is now classified as being held.

This classification indicates that, given current weather conditions and available resources, the wildfire is not expected to grow beyond its existing boundaries.

Saturday, May 3

According to Wildfire Alberta, firefighters are currently on scene of a wildfire west of Sundre.

RWF030 was discovered earlier today and is currently estimated at approximately 35 hectares in size. This wildfire is classified as out of control.

Crews responded quickly and have made good progress. They were supported by helicopters conducting bucketing operations, airtankers dropping retardant and heavy equipment working to establish a containment line around the fire. Information for residents is available through Mountain View County.

Mountain View County is currently monitoring the situation and just before 6 pm released the following statement:

Since January 1, 2025 there have been 30 wildfires in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area, burning a total of 120.53 hectares. 

The wildfire danger remains extreme in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area. 

Dead and dry vegetation continues to be a major concern, as it is highly flammable and provides an easily available fuel source for wildfires. Significant precipitation will be necessary to help reduce the wildfire danger.

Please use extreme caution when spending time outdoors. 

If you see smoke in the forest or signs of wildfire, report it immediately by calling 310-FIRE (3473)
